Question: Bmw m3 e36 v8 conversion...?

Has anyone done anything like this ? can it be done without effecting handling....? im thinking of a 4.0lt v8 but could it be possible to fit any bigger...?? i know it all ready has about 320 hp but i would prefer v8 power and sound to the straight six.... the v8 old or new... the old 4.0lt engine would have about 280 hp whereas the new would have about 300 hp... so am i the Only one to think of this or has alot of people thought and gone through with a conversion of this size on this car with this engine.....????
